April 2, 2025 – Update from Katie Pasitney on their legal battle with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to save their ostriches.
Transcript:
We’ve been going back and forth between case management conferences. We have been trying to organize our legal strategy and really trying to put in a motion with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that allows us to test one egg, one ostrich egg out of the quarantine area to prove that our animals are not shedding and that they are no public threat and that they’re okay.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency has their take on it, it’s very clear that they don’t want any part of it. But this would go back to an email quite some time ago that we got that said that even if they all tested negative they would all have to still be killed.

This is not just a Canadian problem, this is a U.S. problem, this is a global problem. So if we keep going farm to farm and we keep eradicating natural immunity we will eventually have no natural immunity.
You know, nobody wants to talk about it and I think we just need to simplify it for our neighbours and our friends, that as long as there’s migratory birds, we are never going to be avian influenza-free, so every outdoor animal, which CFIA explained in one of the discoveries that um every outdoor animal poses a risk because they are exposed to migratory birds.
So we’re not killing all the migratory birds, that’s unfathomable and I would never, it’s not what I’m promoting. But how does it work then if we’re going to go and kill every one of our agricultural farms and put every one of our agricultural industries in crisis, break down our farmers financially, break down our farmers emotionally, and make them surrender to something that we could really, we could actually save.
We’re fighting for that science to not be killed and destroyed after the 15th and 16th judicial review which we’re up against. That comes also at a cost, and that cost is money, money is ammunition in this war, unfortunately and so we have raised fantastic funds, we’ve done so well and we thank every one of you for every one of your contributions and everyone for your shares and your prayers and your cares and your love but we are over a hundred thousand dollars in debt legally, still. We’re walking into a Judicial Review, we have about, you know, now because with assistance and stuff, we have about four lawyers working with us. That does come at a cost and so I’m really trying to just make this impact reach further.
We need to stand up and rise up as poultry industries, the dairy industry, the cattle industry, the bovine industry. We need to stand together, stand up, rise up, we need to say stop, stamping out is not just stamping out the possibility of virus, we are stamping out natural immunity and that will have a catastrophic failure in our survival.
So we have something here and Canadian Food Inspection Agency is just hell-bent on kill kill kill, and they do not want to partake in anything that could be scientifically um successful in curbing the uptick in this and um you have to start to scratch your head and wonder why, which I’m sure a lot of you know why, I’m sure there’s some that I, yeah, there’s there’s different takes on it.
Thank you for all the support. Thank you for all the love. Thank you for all the kind messages and emails to our family and our farm and yeah the ostriches are doing great so let’s try and keep them alive.
