Targeted for Destruction: How Government Authorities Are Suspiciously Threatening an Ostrich Farm Leading the Way for Solutions to Disease

New Territory Media by Mindy Patterson

In a horrific example of government overreach, Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood, British Columbia, faces the slaughter of nearly 400 ostriches due to a most dubious action by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). This case has sent alarm not just to farmers in Canada, but also to American farmers, as it demonstrates the increasing use of regulatory power to destroy independent farming and scientific advancement.

It began for Universal Ostrich Farm when an anonymous complaint was reported to the CFIA that there was a suspected Avian Influenza case on the farm. In the absence of precedent for Avian Influenza in Canadian ostriches, the CFIA acted expeditiously. The agency tested only two deceased birds via PCR tests, a method thoroughly discredited due to its significant false positive rate when used on unconventional hosts. Without conducting independent additional testing, and without confirming the actual cause of illness, the CFIA issued a demand to cull the entire flock.

The farm had once had a corresponding illness in December 2020, which proved to be the Pseudomonas bacteria. In that situation, most ostriches cleared up on their own, which demonstrated herd immunity. However, even with such a background, the CFIA ignored all competing explanations and pursued a mass cull order that comes across as having less to do with disease mitigation and more about exercising unfettered control of agricultural practices.

In addition to the immediate tragedy of potentially losing their entire flock, Universal Ostrich Farm’s work in research on antibodies renders this situation all the more devastating. Universal Ostrich Farm has set the pace in scientific innovation, extracting antibodies from ostrich eggs that have proven to be exceptionally valuable in combatting certain illnesses, including COVID-19. Their study proved that one ostrich egg holds the antibodies equivalent to 100 chicken eggs or the blood of 800 rabbits without the need to sacrifice them.

Most importantly, their antibodies also turned out to be universally neutralizing against COVID-19 and all its variants. The success of the farm was suddenly cut short in a most unexpected manner when a cooperating laboratory was acquired by an outside agency and silenced under a non-disclosure agreement, a move that seriously calls into question whether powerful forces moved to silence this promising medical breakthrough.

The CFIA’s behavior is even more suspicious when taking into account the government’s interest in the research of the farm. In the initial talks, top officials pretended to be supportive and took intellectual property and business plans from the farm. However, even while promising to investigate the science, they had already signed the culling order, thus guaranteeing the killing of both the ostriches and the research of the farm.

Adding to the intimidation, farm employees were supposedly interrogated as to where their COVID-19 antibodies were. The question remains: Was the culling order truly aimed at halting disease, or was it to cover up a scientific discovery that put vested pharmaceutical interests at risk?

Even remarks from the CFIA contradict their aggressive actions. The agency admitted that if Avian Influenza actually existed, the entire flock would have died in 24-36 hours. But the reality could not be further from it—most ostriches never became ill, and those who did recovered. In addition, independent tests by farm hands concluded that there were birds that had antibodies to H5N1, signifying past exposure without illness, a direct opposite of the hype being pushed by regulators.

Further proving the absurdity of the fearmongering surrounding Avian Influenza, the entire family at Universal Ostrich Farm also tested positive for the antibodies, showing that they had been exposed at some point yet remained perfectly healthy and never fell ill. This raises serious questions about the severity of the disease and the motivations behind the Canadian government’s aggressive response.

People are hospitalized from the flu every day, yet Avian Influenza has been selectively chosen as the latest tool of fear to control the populace. If we continue down this path of fear-driven policymaking, we risk backing ourselves into another pandemic response devoid of reason and education.

Also, the fact that the farm is located near a large population of migratory Mallard ducks—a known vector for avian diseases—was utterly disregarded by authorities. If the CFIA was truly concerned with preventing disease, a more scientific approach would have been to test the surrounding environment and other potential sources of contamination rather than calling for indiscriminate slaughter of an entire flock. The reality remains that as long as we have migratory birds, avian influenza will continue to exist, and the current approach of mass culling is unsustainable. Instead of destroying farms and wiping out food producers, new strategies must be developed to combat Avian Influenza effectively without dismantling agricultural operations worldwide.

The Universal Ostrich Farm case has to be an eye-opener for farming communities all over the world, and the United States, where the government interference chokes independent farmers at every step. The mass culling methods in Canada are not isolated; the same has occurred in the U.S., where the regulatory agencies exercise total powers in the guise of disease control, snatching the rights of family-run farms and scientific progress.

If the birds on Universal Ostrich Farm are destroyed, it will create a precedent that regulators can destroy agricultural businesses using weak evidence, and farmers are left subject to bureaucratic tyranny. This is not a fight about one farm—it is a fight about the future of independent producers in agriculture, food security, and the freedom of scientific innovation.

With a court of judicial review scheduled for April 15-16, Universal Ostrich Farm stands at a critical juncture: If the court upholds the CFIA, it will pave the way for more unjustified killings and potential suppression of scientific development in the fields of food and health security. But if the farm prevails, it will be a landmark victory for farmers’ rights and the fight against government overreach across the globe.

Financial support is critical in this battle. The farm is calling for donations and large-scale awareness to overturn this abuse of government power. Ostriches aside, this cause is about preserving the right to innovate, farm, and resist excessive regulations that erode the very essence of the independent producer in agriculture.

If Canada will not see the value in this science, perhaps America will. The silencing of Universal Ostrich Farm’s groundbreaking antibody research should be a concern for U.S. health advocates and policymakers, too. Imagine that these antibodies could turn everything around about how we combat infectious disease. Imagine that they might provide a better alternative to current ways of producing antibodies that is more effective for both humans and animals?

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., a vocal advocate for strict therapeutic drug testing and food sovereignty, might just have the solution for bringing Universal Ostrich Farm’s research to America. With American poultry flocks now under threat from the H5N1 bird flu, effective antibodies derived from ostrich eggs could be the missing link in disease prevention and treatment.

With individuals such as John Catsimatidis as potential intermediaries, this could prove to be one of the most historic scientific acquisitions in American history. It would not only secure America’s food supply but also position RFK Jr. as a key player in driving breakthroughs that defend farms and public health.

A Call to Action:

The battle that Universal Ostrich Farm is fighting is not just for one farm or even a nation—it is to protect the fundamental rights of farmers, safeguard scientific progress, and oppose creeping authoritarianism that seeks to control agriculture in the guise of biosecurity.

Time is running out. Universal Ostrich Farm is counting on the public to help bring an end to this government tyranny. If Canada fails to deliver justice in this case, perhaps the United States must step in to uphold a finding that holds promise for reforming food sovereignty and future medicines.

We must ask ourselves: Will we let regulatory agencies determine the destiny of scientific innovations, or will we resist the loss of our right to innovation, food sovereignty, and agricultural freedom?
