BREAKING: Avian flu poster child, 13-year-old Joselynn, joins fight to save B.C. ostriches from cull, who is deemed Canada’s first person to catch the avian flu. On May 24th, 2025, Joselynn and her family travelled to visit Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood, B.C., to show her support for saving the 400 healthy ostriches from Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s culling order.
“Joselynn shared that she felt it was wrong to use her as an example of why the ostriches should be culled. When asked what she would like CFIA to do? “Let them live. They don’t deserve to die.”
This comes only one day following Robert F. Kennedy Jr., U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), official HHS letter to CFIA president, Paul MacKinnon, dated May 23, 2025 proposing collaboration to study UOF’s herd to understand immune response.
