Frank is Fed Up with the Feds Falsehoods
Edgewood, BC – June 7, 2025
Disinformation Response to two CFIA Statements (May 31, 2025):
- Update on the CFIA’s actions at an HPAI infected premises at a BC ostrich farm
- CFIA’s basis for applying disease control measures at an avian influenza infected ostrich farm
Biosecurity
Disinformation #6 (Cont.): The farm failed to undertake biosecurity risk mitigation measures.
CFIA conducted two protocol and biosecurity inspections on January 7 and 24, 2025. CFIA was not concerned after these two visits and indicated that we were conducting protocols correctly. CFIA has not returned since for any further protocol or biosecurity checks. They came for one more visit just as a ‘perimeter check’ to examine a portion of the fencing around the pond and pen. The issues listed in CFIA’s May 31st media release were not communicated with us.
Response: Watch 6 video clips to show CFIA agents dressed in full hazmat suits conducting a “Protocol and Biosecurity Inspection” at Universal Ostrich Farm on January 24, 2025.

CFIA Inspection Video #3: CFIA Watches Ostrich Farm Owners Sanitize Truck: A 30-Min Routine 2x/Day
In this video, four CFIA agents dressed in full hazmat suits stand by and watch as the ostrich farm owners sanitize their truck. The owners are required to spray toxic cleaners and scrub the entire vehicle, a process that takes about 30 minutes, twice a day. This is in addition to the 19 new conditions that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has imposed on the farm as of February 6, 2025.

CFIA Inspection Video #4: CFIA Tells Farmers: One Positive Avian Flu Test Means All Ostriches Must Be Destroyed
During a CFIA inspection at Universal Ostrich Farms, the farm owners asked how long it takes for an illness to pass through an ostrich. The CFIA agent responded that it could take hours or a couple of days, but warned that even a single case of illness means the entire flock needs to be destroyed.

CFIA Inspection Video #6: Stamping Out Policy: Any Animal Exposed to Avian Flu Must be Euthanized
Agent #1 responded “They’re not healthy.” When asked why he believed the ostriches weren’t healthy, he replied, “The herd has been diagnosed with high path avian influenza. It’s our stamping-out policy. That whole epidemiological unit that is exposed under stamping-out, this is um…. the policy, is that any animal that is exposed, those animals must be euthanized.”
If the ostriches have been exposed and developed natural immunity, why are they being destroyed?

We have asked questions to be compliant and get feedback, to ensure we are compliant.
In summary, we have followed and have gone above regulatory compliance and animal health standards. Our 30+ years of experience with raising our ostriches does make us experts in the health and care of our animals. We have been diligent and took this quarantine and CFIA requirements very seriously. This greatly contributed to our success resulting in no further illnesses since January 14, 2025.
We never thought we would have to speak out like this, but after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published their May 30 (and now updated on May 31) media releases, we have no choice. What they released to the public is not science. It is by definition disinformation. Disinformation is “false information deliberately created and disseminated with the intent to mislead, manipulate, or cause harm.” Is this CFIA media release a narrative designed to justify the destruction of our farm, discredit our family, and protect a broken trade system?
Let’s get the truth out. Tune in regularly for Frankly Speaking episodes in the CFIA Disinformation press series.
